How to change child support in Oregon
How and when to ask for a new amount, with a review letter.
Checked against official sources: Oct 25, 2026.
Short answer
To modify an order means to change the amount by a new order. You can ask the program to review your order once it has been in effect at least 35 months. If the review finds the order is out of line with the guidelines after this period, it is brought in line without needing to show a change in circumstances.
- Agency review
- Every 3 years if a parent asks (federal law)
When Oregon allows a change
You can ask the program to review your order once it has been in effect at least 35 months. If the review finds the order is out of line with the guidelines after this period, it is brought in line without needing to show a change in circumstances. You can ask sooner if you have proof of a significant change, such as a change in custody, a parent's income, the child's needs (child care, health coverage), or the number of children. A guideline change alone is not a reason.
