How child support is calculated in Oklahoma

What decides the amount, where to get the real number, and the extra rules.

Checked against official sources: Oct 25, 2026.

Short answer

Oklahoma uses the income-shares model: both parents' incomes count, and each parent pays a share of the child's support. Support is figured from both parents' combined gross monthly income. The state schedule gives the total support for that income and number of children, and each parent pays his or her percentage share.

Support is figured from both parents' combined gross monthly income. Health insurance, child care and a parenting-time adjustment (121 or more overnights a year) can change the amount.

What the model means

In an income-shares state, both parents' incomes are added together. A table gives the support for that combined income, and each parent pays the share that matches their part of the income.

Every state must have one set of child support guidelines, review them at least every 4 years, and use the guideline amount unless a written finding says it would be unjust.

Health insurance in Oklahoma

Every new or changed order must include medical support: health insurance, cash medical support, or both. Insurance counts as reasonable in cost if the covering parent's share of the premium is no more than 5% of that parent's gross income.

The low-income rule in Oklahoma

The schedule starts at $50 a month for very low combined incomes. Income can be imputed at minimum wage for at least 25 hours a week when a parent is unemployed or underemployed.

State guidelines may not treat time in jail or prison as choosing not to work, when support is set or changed.
